Scenario 2 – Known Corn Allergy, New Prescription

Patient: Mr. B., 55 years old

Mr. B reports a documented corn allergy that causes hives and
swelling. He has been prescribed a new once-daily blood pressure medication
in oral tablet form.

Student Tasks:

  • Select corn as an allergen in the system (if not already saved).
  • Scan the new blood pressure medication.
  • Check the inactive ingredients for corn, cornstarch, maize, or related terms.
  • Decide if this product is safe or if an alternative formulation should be requested.
